She is unable to teach her daughter, Waverly, to listen to her mother, while at the same time the American culture tells her to listen only to herself. Lindo cannot understand, and therefore a divide occurs between mother and daughter. It is impossible for Lindo to understand her daughters culture, and it is impossible for her Waverly to understand her mothers culture. Because of the different social environments of their youths, a culture clash between the two arises. As Chiu writes, when the culture of a parent does not match the culture of the law the law will typically emerge victorious, and this is exactly what happens in the case of the Jongs (Chiu 1793). American culture that Waverly is immersed in daily takes precedence over a culture that she only ever sees from her family. The American ideals take precedence over cultural values in first-generation children, as they desire to become more like the people around them and fit in. Asian-Americans make up 5.6% of the American population, and most identify themselves by more specific labels, such as Chinese-American, Korean-American, and Indian-American. They cite themselves as these smaller groups because they call upon a much richer history than that of Asian-Americans. Despite this, it is a common phenomenon for Asian-American children to cast off their culture because it clashes with the societal majoritys ideals. Culture clash leads to the alienation of first-generation Asian-American children. Important negotiations skills are always important to be developed properly by the salesperson who is trying his best to engage effectively in a negotiating deal. The first skill is to define the concessions that the salesperson is willing to accept in advance. Often, it is seen that in the heat of the moment, often sales person provide statements like 30% discount or additional six months of support which might not be possible to provide according to company norms. Therefore, it becomes extremely important for the sales person to define clearly the limits on the price discounts, add-ons and freebies before negotiating and selling the products or services. This will ensure that the sa les member and the consumers come to a mutually beneficial agreement helping in maintaining trustworthy relationship. The second important principle that the salesperson should follow is that the prospect should go first in the negotiation deal. When the salesperson presents the terms of the deal, it is important for the prospect to start the negotiation and begin the conversation (Holden and Thompson 2018). In many cases, it is seen that the sales member often gets tempted to provide a discount or even an adjustment in order to be more accommodating even when before the prospects states anything. This ensures better success rate and better profit margin. On negotiating sales, it is important to listen first and then speak out concern. The third important point is that during sales negotiation, the sales-member should never give a range like providing a discount from 15% to 25%. This is because a prospect will never settle for fewer discounts and this in turn makes it implied to the prospect that the sales price is flexible. This also destroys trust (Geiger 2017). Therefore the word between should always be avoided. Another very important aspect that should be maintained in a sales negotiation is not to put anything in written process until the entire negotiation and conversation had completed. Often, it is seen that negotiations swing fort and back and again around. Often, many ideas are proposed out of which, some are accepted and some are shot down. The sales members should be wise and not revise the contract until the entire ales negotiation has ended and all the parties have verbally agreed to the different terms. Another important point that the salesperson should also remember is that they should never make mistakes like negotiating with the wrong person without contacting the decision maker. In many cases, sales person talk with the women of the house who ultimately decides that husbands would be finalizing the deal. This means when the talks would beg an again with the decision maker; the later will start at the already discounted price in the first meeting. This will result in poor outcome of the seller but will be highly advantageous for the prospect. Another important principle for sales negotiation is that the sales person should get something in return for the different sorts of concessions they are providing. It must be always remembered that often-healthy salesperson-customer relationships are developed from mutual respect and trust. The sales person should not accept all demands of the prospect without claiming advantageous benefits for themselves (Fleming and Hawes 2017). They should try to conduct negotiation in ways that would result in win-win for both the parties. Salespersons and clients should be based on equal footing which ultimately lays the groundwork for mutually beneficial relationship. Negotiation can be defined as the procedure by which people successfully settles the differences faced by them. It is a process by which the engaged parties wither compromise or comes to an agreement at the same time of avoiding argument and dispute. Principles of benefits, maintaining a healthy and trustworthy relationship and seeking mutual benefits are some of the keys that lead to successful outcomes. Individuals who are engaged in the negotiation are called the negotiators. Researchers are of the opinion that in order to be a successful negotiator, it is important for them to be charming and open-minded. He has to properly articulate and use his experiences in a proper manner to conduct negotiations effectively (Schneider and Honeyman 2006). At the same time, negotiators need to have perseverance that ultimately helps them to be on the winning side of the deals or to negotiate properly in deals with win-win solutions. They need to have patience as well as assertiveness. Flexibil ity and developing insight helping to understand the opposite side will help in striking a proper relationship with the opposing parties that might be fruitful in the future. They must also have the clear ideas about the points they need to establish and therefore should be persuasive and should know what they want. Researchers are therefore of the opinion that the experts should have proper preparation and planning skills and have the knowledge of the subject that is being negotiated. They should also have proper listening skills and the ability to think clearly and rapidly even when they are under pressures as well as under certainty. They should have proper integrity, patience, ability to persuade other individuals, judgment and general intelligence and decisiveness. They should consider all options, be aware of the procedures as well as the styles of the other persons and be flexible in different situations (Leucke and Patterson 2008). Effective negotiation has a number of important features. It helps in analyzing problems by determining the interests of each party included in the negotiations techniques. A proper negotiation helps a problem to be analyzed in details so that the issue can be properly identified. A negotiation should have proper preparation where the parties would have properly identified the goals as well as realized the areas for trade and alternatives for the stated goals. However, the negotiators should always avoid being provoked emotionally as that might affect effective outcomes (Orheian 2014). Effective negotiations help in better relationship building. They are educated enough to know about all â€Å"options† out there.In a sample of 116 respondents:70% indicated they worked with a professional designer or design company27% indicated they did their own covers3% indicated they purchased pre-made cover design templatesNote 1: Over 50% of the DIY-enthusiasts in this survey are actually either professional designers (as well as indie authors) or well-versed enough in editorial design to produce covers of a same quality standard as traditional publishing.Note 2: Several authors (around 20) indicated in the comments that they worked with a professional designer for some of their â€Å"main† books and did the covers themselves for short stories.ConclusionsIf over 80% of authors in this sample place a high enough value on book design to consult and hire a professional, it seems reasonable to say that debuting authors should do the same. In an extremely competitive market, first-time authors who want to realistically compete with seasoned professionals would do well to note the value a professional designer can add.DIY tools offer great value to those who already possess design skills, but cannot replace or teach those skills to the uninitiated. In terms of constant prices, the per capita income which was Rs. 16,173 in (2000-01) rose to Rs. 24,295 by (2007-08) and to 26,618 in (2009-10). That is a rise of 64 percent over the decade. The social structures of India has transformed in over the last two decades. There has been an amendment in some areas like family, caste system, and marriage system. The Indian family structure has changed due to the effects of modern social forces. There has been modifications in the way families relate and operate. The main structure of an Indian family is the joint structure whereby the family members live under the same roof in this type of family structure the eldest male is the head, he make the decision on behalf of the whole family. However, the properties and money belongs to everyone. In actual fact, the joint family system is losing significance and an urban family type is been practised thereby causing a causing a change to a nuclear family system (Mahesh, 2011). The caste system India has changed with the effects of modern education, industrialisation, social reforms, change in legislation, and the influence of modern communication systems. Hereditary social structure, fixed occupations and food restriction were prominent in India whereby you have to continue your family’s occupation and behaviour also there are different jobs for different caste types for example there is a certain caste to become a soldier. However, caste systems are losing their importance as modernisation and sanskritisation have changed the way people think and behave (Calicut, 2011). There are four main types of marriage in India which are polygyny, polyandry, endogamy and monogamy. However, there has been a tremendous change in the marriage structure; monogamy is now the practised marriage system in India as a result of others been legally prohibited. Also the influence of parents in choosing their children’s partners has really reduced and children are now choosing their partners. In addition there has been alterations in the age of marriage and a man under 21 years is not allowed to marry while a woman under 18 years cannot marry (Mahesh, 2011). International relations The Indian economy has become more diverse and globally integrated, as the Indian economy benefited from the high working age population so as other countries benefited from this. The population in India has attracted a lot of investors due to the fact that labour is cheap and also political factors have also influenced the rate of foreign investors. Apart from this technological factors have also played a major role in the increase in investment as most electrical parts are exported from India however, India has become a resourceful location for electrical and technology companies India is increasing its importance as a trading partner to countries, and there has been increase in the investment of GDP in India over the past decade. India is the world’s fifth largest oil refining country, it has a strong trading relationship with United Arab Emirate which is a major importer of processed petroleum products also India is a significant importer of precious stones which are mostly processed and exported to other countries. In addition, India is a good exporter of iron ore although iron ore has a low share of its total export due to the high export duty fees applied to promote growth in the country’s steel sector (Adam Mark , 2010). The Indian economy due to political changes has become very strong, there has been an increase in the GDP and India is now mentioned among the top four developing countries (BRIC).In addition, there has been a lot of social changes in India including factors like caste, marriage system, education and family structure; these factors have played a significant role in the changes recognised in India today. India is the second most populous country in the world with an estimate of 1.26 billion people (Statistics, 2014).As a result of this, the Indian economy will continue to grow as over 65% of the population is below 35 years old. India’s relationship with other countries has also been strengthened following necessary reforms and India now trades with a lot of countries also the rate of foreign investors has increased. Billy Budd :: essays research papers

Billy Budd by Herman Melville fits into both categories of tragedy, classic and modern. This story fits into both Aristotle’s and Arthur Miller’s concepts of tragedy. Billy Budd is this story’s tragic hero and its his actions that determine how this story fits into both categories.The classic definition of tragedy is Aristotle’s, that the tragic hero must be noble and have a tragic flaw. He must also experience a reversal of fortune and recognize the reason for his downfall. This couldn’t be any more like Billy’s story. Billy played was a respected and loved sailor with an embarrassing stutter, but was accused of conspiring to stage a mutiny. This changes Billy’s life dramatically resulting in him to kill an officer, and sentenced to death. Before he is executed though he blesses the man who sentenced him to death, which tells the reader that he had forgiven him and understands why he must be killed. Aristotle’s definition says a tragedy should have â€Å"incidents arousing pity and fear†. The incident with Claggart must have certainly caused the reader to pity him and to fear how Captain Vere would handle Billy. The modern concept of tragedy is that of Arthur Miller’s, that the audience feels and fears for the characters so much that it is as if they are the characters themselves. The characters finally meet their tragic end, and the audience witnesses and understands their end. This applies to Billy mostly because of his likeability. The readers come to love Billy as his fellows sailors do. He is completely innocent and naive at the same time. The readersees his weakness and comes to feel sorry for Billy the way one might for a child. The reader sympathizes with Billy especially when he is confronted by Claggart and can do nothing, but stutter. The reader is with Billy throughout and witnesses his transformation at the end.
